iOS 5.0.1 Jailbroken Using Redsn0w 0.9.9b8, Here’s How To Do It [Tips and Tricks]

Today Apple publicly released iOS 5.0.1 final build and when it comes to jailbreak, through RedSnOw 0.9.9b8 Semi-tethered jailbreak is possible for iOS 5.0.1 .

For jailreakers however it is advised not to update the iOS firmware to version 5.0.1 until there is a way to downgrade from it to iOS 5. Untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 will take much longer as this version has fixed the exploits that could have lead to an early untethered jailbreak.

Supported devices for the below guide:

  • iPhone 4 (semi untethered)
  • iPhone 3GS new bootrom (semi untethered)
  • iPhone 3GS old bootrom (untethered)
  • iPod touch 4G (semi untethered)
  • iPod touch 3G (semi untethered)
  • iPad 1 (semi untethered)

Anyways, here is a guide explaining step by step how to tether jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 final.

HOW TO TETHER JAILBREAK iOS 5.0.1 FINAL BY RedSnOW 0.9.9b8 :

Step 1 : Install iOS 5.0.1 Final Version [Download HERE]

Step 2: Open RedSnOw 0.9.9b8 (Download HERE) and select option Extras, then specify Firmware and point it to the iOS 5.0 firmware IPSW ( Yes you have to first point it to old iOS 5)

Step 3: Go to the main screen of RedSnow and place your device in DFU mode. After that click Jailbreak and then select ” Install Cydia” .

Step 4: Your device is jailbroken, but the Cydia icon will remain white as its a tethered jailbreak , so you will to boot tethered by placing your device in DFU mode again.

Step 5: Repeat Step 2

Step 6: Click “Just Boot” from Redsnow’s extras menu and it will perform a tethered boot.

Step 7: Now head to Cydia then search for “SemiTether” and install the tool:

That’s it, your device should be fully jailbroken. Hopefully a new version of RedSnOw which will fix the step in which you have to point to iOS 5.0 would release soon.
