As you may already know, Apple is currently busy ironing out the kinks within iOS 5. A problem that has been addressed by the Cupertino company by releasing a firmware update in the form of iOS 5.0.1. Now on a related note, Apple has released another pre-release version of iTunes 10.5.1 to registered iOS developers.

The new pre-release version dubbed iTunes 10.5.1 beta 3, much like previous versions, is another update that is geared towards improving Apple’s new service called iTunes Match. This update is mainly to address a couple of stability issues and to improve the performance across the boards. According to the iTunes 10.5.1 Beta 3 release log:

iTunes 10.5.1 beta 3 is now available. This update includes a number of important stability and performance improvements for iTunes Match.

iTunes Match stores your music library in iCloud and allows you to enjoy your collection from anywhere, any time, on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, computer or Apple TV.

In order to subscribe to iTunes Match, or continue using your existing subscription, please upgrade to iTunes 10.5.1 beta 3. Once upgraded, turn on iTunes Match on each of your computers and iOS devices. On your computer, choose Store > Turn on iTunes Match. On your iOS device, tap Settings > Music, then turn on iTunes Match. On your Apple TV, please turn off iTunes Match under Settings > General > iTunes Store.

The songs on your computer should not be affected. As always, please backup regularly and do not delete the music you add to iCloud from your computer.

As you can see, this beta version doesn’t really do much in terms of new features or changes. But stability and performance improvements are always welcome. iTunes Match is the newest service from Apple which is tied with its cloud-based storage service called iCloud. iTunes Match users are able to match the songs on their library from the ones that are found in the iTunes Store. This way, the user’s iTunes library can be effortlessly synced between multiple iOS devices (running iOS 5) and Macs. A notable feature of iTunes Match is that it allows the user to convert an old mp3 file into a higher quality 256kbps AAC DRM-free music file, provided that the old file has a corresponding match in the iTunes Store. You can avail of iTunes Match by paying an annual fee of $24.99.

As per usual, iTunes 10.5.1 beta 3 is only available to users who have registered an account over at Apple’s iOS Dev Center. Registering for an account is relatively simple. All you have to do is pay a yearly fee of $99 and you are good to go. iTunes 10.5.1 was expected to be rolled out in public during the last week of October but as you can see, it never happened. But it should come in a couple of days. We’ll keep you posted.
