Today tweets after tweets we are getting new information revealed. In the last hour @pod2g told that the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 will release next week for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and then he also tweeted to the users of iPhone 4S and iPad 2 to update to iOS 5.0.1.

TU supports iPhone 4S 9A406 – Sorry for the delay. Small oversight…

From the blog post of Semaphore

Although we cannot exploit/restore iPhone 4S SHSHs we still should save them just in case. I’ve just updated TU to support iPhone 4S 5.0.1b “9A406″.

Today the tool to save SHSH blobs also got updated to save the SHSH Blobs for iOS 5.0.1 (9A406) for iPhone 4S. We can now only save the SHSH Blobs of iPhone 4S with the help of Tiny Umbrella, but we cannot restore to the iOS 5.0.1 of iPhone 4S because it is not yet vulnerable to any exploit.

It is good to save the SHSH blobs for iPhone 4S for now because the iOS 5.1 is around the corner and it might come some time today or within this week. The iOS 5.1 beta 2 was released 2 weeks back ago aiming to fix the battery issues on iPhone 4S.

Good news for iOS jailbreakers eagerly anticipating @pod2g’s untether to be released. The infamous iPhone Dev Team has just updated their redsn0w and Pwnage tools to jailbreak iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad 1 untethered on iOS 5.0.1, and is available for download. The updated redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for both Windows and Mac OS X can perform untethered jailbreak on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 4G and iPod Touch 3G (all A4 devices) running iOS 5.0.1 (iOS 5.0 not supported). Details after the break.

@pod2g handed over his untether exploit to both the Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team for final release, and just now, both teams have incorporated the same exploit in the said tools. The Chronic Dev Team has released an untether package over at Cydia for previously-jailbroken devices.

The list of supported devices includes:

iPhone 4 (GSM & CDMA)

iPhone 3GS

iPad 1

iPod Touch 3G

iPod Touch 4G

If you have any of these A4 devices, you can get untethered jalbreak on iOS 5.0.1 through redsn0w or Pwnage tool, both on Windows and Mac OS X.

Requirements

You must already be running iOS 5.0.1 on your iDevice, as iOS 5.0 is not supported. If you are still on 5.0, update immediately, as the iPSW signing window for 5.0.1 is still open and might cause a problem for you afterwards

Caution: Ultrasn0w and Gevey SIM unlockers, don’t upgrade through iTunes. You need a custom firmware that will preserve your baseband. You can use redsn0w and Pwnage tool both to create such a custom IPSW.

It is advised to back up all your data with iTunes or iCloud before you proceed.

Instructions (Redsn0w Only):

1. Download redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for your operating system here (Windows, Mac OS X)
2. Plug in your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad running iOS 5.0.1 to your computer.through USB cable. Make sure iTunes is not running before proceeding, and launch redsn0w.

3. Click on the jailbreak button. You will get a warning for making sure that your iDevice is both off and plugged in before it can be put into DFU mode for upgrade.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions for putting your device in DFU mode. As soon as it is detected, redsn0w will automatically identify your device and running iOS version.

5. Once the device is identified, redsn0w will start preparing the jailbreak data and performing the relevant operations. Sit tight.

6. When redsn0w is done working, you will get a dialog for selecting jailbreak options. Just checkInstall Cydia and proceed.

7. The patched ramdisk will be uploaded to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, and redsn0w interface will get you a final page for donating to @pod2g, the developer of the untether.

The rest of the jailbreak process takes place on your device’s screen, which you can see as it happens.

Now that Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 has been released, there is no longer a need for a 5.0 IPSW in order to jailbreak or tethered boot your device. This is great news for those who carry the files around with them in case they need to reboot tethered away from home. Now all you need is Redsn0w and an internet connection, no need for the bulky IPSW file! Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 also adds a bunch of other features but we will stick to jailbreaking for this tutorial.

DOWNLOAD:
Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 - Win
Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 - OSX

Step 1: After downloading Redsn0w open it up and hit “Jailbreak”

Step 2: On the next screen, you will be instructed to shut off your device and prepare to put it into DFU mode. If you already know how to do the DFU process you can just enter DFU mode before hitting next. Otherwise, turn your device off, hit next and follow the on-screen instructions for putting your device in DFU mode.

Step 3: After Redsn0w detects your device you don’t need to do anything else, it will automatically detect what model you have, download the appropriate files needed for jailbreaking and exploit your device all automatically. Once the exploit is performed another screen will pop-up showing a few options. Select “Install Cydia.” The process will continue automatically once again and your phone will reboot once it’s done.

Step 4: Remember that this is still not an untethered jailbreak. Because of this, you still need to boot tethered any time your phone reboots or loses power. To do this either hit “back” to the main screen if Redsn0w is still open or just reopen if it’s not and this time hit “Extras.”

Step 5: Now hit the “Just Boot” option.

Step 6: Now you will be instructed to put your device into DFU mode again. This time after your phone reboots, it will boot to the springboard and Cydia will be fully functioning just like an untethered jailbreak.

The famous hacker of the iOS community, the man behind the most famous jailbreak tool Sn0wBreeze, iH8Sn0w has just released the major update to its tool called iFaith. iFaith allows you save the SHSH blobs of the current iOS version running on your iDevice. iFaith is is different from Tiny Umbrella. So don’t mix iFaith with Tiny Umbrella. To be more clear iFaith saves the current version SHSH blobs, where as Tiny Umbrella saves the SHSH for future Firmwares and the current one both.

Download iFaith v1.4 For Windows

As noted, iFaith is a Windows only tool, so until RedSn0w or some other Mac based software is updated, you will need a Windows box to successfully back up your SHSH blobs for iOS 5 and create a signed IPSW that you can use regardless of whether or not Apple is still signing that particular firmware.

TinyUmbrella has been updated to allow you to save your SHSH blobs, but there’s still the question of APTicket, and there’s still no “stitching” or signing solution for Mac users just yet. We’ll go out on the limb and say there will certainly be a full Mac solution soon.

How to Save Your iOS 5 SHSH Blobs

Notes: You must be on a Windows box. You must have an iDevice (not compatible iPhone 4S yet) that has iOS 5+ installed. Run iFaith as administrator for best results. You will need your current Firmware available to create the custom IPSW.

Step 1: Download and run iFaith.

Step 2: Put Your device into DFU Mode.

Step 3: Select “Dump SHSH Blobs” click Proceed, Let’s Go!, select No on the Apple TV 2 prompt, and click Start.

Step 4: iFaith will dump your SHSH Blobs and ask you to save them. Save them on your desktop.

How to Create a Custom Signed IPSW for Future Downgrading

Step 1: Run iFaith.

Step 2: Put Your device into DFU Mode.

Step 3: Select “Build *signed* IPSW w/ Blobs”.

Step 4: Browse for your device’s current firmware. You can also download directly from iFaith, but I recommend using the browse feature.

Step 5: Click Build IPSW.

Step 6: It will Extract the IPSW and place it on your desktop.

Step 7: Click Proceed and Click Start (Your device should already be in DFU mode, this will place it into PwnedDFU mode for custom restore using iTunes).

Step 8: Close iFaith, open iTunes and it should find your device in recovery mode. Hold Shift and click Restore and find your custom firmware. The firmware should be named something like: 0000000000_iFaith_iPhone_4-5.0.1 (9A405)_signed.ipsw.

In this example I created a custom 5.0.1 IPSW file. Since Apple is still signing this firmware, I won’t be able to verify my downgrade until iOS 5.1 is released, and Apple stops signing 5.0.1. Until then, I recommend keeping your custom firmware in a safe place for future pain-proof restores.

If you’re on iOS 5.0, you can test out your downgrade capabilities now since iOS 5.0 is no longer being signed. Just make sure that you select the custom firmware when you do your restore.

This will NOT work on an iPhone 4S since, like the iPad 2, the 4S isn’t limera1n susceptible.

A new bookmarklet for iOS (developed by Joe Hewitt) adds a Firebug console to Safari for iOS.

Though Marin Kool has published a concise how-to guide on installing and using the Firebug bookmarklet, the text box on his webpage didn’t load properly on my iPhone. Because of that, I’ll outline how I managed to install the bookmarklet here.

First, create a bookmark in Safari on your iOS device for any webpage, and name that bookmark “Firebug.”

Next, copy the below text to your iPhone’s clipboard:

javascript:(function(F,i,r,e,b,u,g,L,I,T,E){if(F.getElementById(b))return;E=F[i+'NS']&&F.documentElement.namespaceURI;E=E?F[i+'NS'](E,’script’):F[i](‘script’);E[r](‘id’,b);E[r](‘src’,I+g+T);E[r](b,u);(F[e](‘head’)[0]||F[e](‘body’)[0]).appendChild(E);E=new%20Image;E[r](‘src’,I+L);})(document,’createElement’,’setAttribute’,’getElementsByTagName’,’FirebugLite’,’4′,’firebug-lite.js’,’releases/lite/latest/skin/xp/sprite.png’,’https://getfirebug.com/’,’#startOpened’);

Following this, launch Safari and edit the Firebug bookmark, replacing the URL with the above text. Hit “Done,” and the bookmarklet should be created and ready to use.

In order to launch the Firebug console, visit a website on your iOS device and, once the website has loaded, open your Bookmarks in Safari and touch Firebug. After a few moments, the console should appear at the bottom of the webpage (as you can see in the above image).

That’s all, folks! Hopefully the above method will work for you (I emailed myself the bookmarklet, but if you keep this webpage open in Safari on your iOS device you can copy the text from here).

If this helped you in anyway remember to “Like” us on Facebook or share with your friends.

This would come in handy, as an example, if you find yourself in a dead zone. It would be easier to track which area will allow you to make that important call. We’ve all been there, holding ours phones up like the Statue of Liberty trying to achieve a single bar.

I went ahead and dove into the steps on my iPhone 4. It does access a hidden area of your iphone so proceed with caution. What we do in the name of technology! Your iPhone does not need to be jailbroken and the process is simple.

I’m not sure if it works for all iPhone models or in all countries for that matter, but if you would like to see the results for yourself, here are the steps:

Step 1: Dial *3001#12345#* on your iPhone then press Call.

Step 2: You’ll now enter Field Test Mode. You’ll notice a signal strength indicator on the upper left hand corner of your screen. You can toggle between signal strength bars and a number by simply taping on it. At this point, press the home button to exit the app or if you would like the feature to be permanent, continue on. Don’t worry, the process is completely reversible.

Step 3: Hold down on the Power button until you see the ‘slide to power off’ bar. Do not power off the device.

Step 4: Press down on the Home button until the app closes and you return to your home screen.

That’s it. Even when restarting the iPhone, the signal strength can be toggled between bars and numbers. The closer your number is to zero, the stronger your signal is.

To return to the default bars permanently, follow these steps:

Step 1: Dial *3001#12345#* on your iPhone then press Call.

Step 2: Press on your Home Button once.

TouchPad for iOS has built up a reputation for being one of the smoothest remote keyboard and Trackpad apps to do it, with functionality and features second to none.

Many remote control apps require you to download some form of third-party installer for your desktop, but since TouchPad is dependent solely on OS X’s native Screen Sharing technology, you won’t find yourself in the familiar predicament of trying (often unsuccessfully) to get two apps to connect with each other.

TouchPad has just been handed a fairly major update by developer Edovia, bringing Siri integration for those fortunate iPhone 4s users amongst you.

Providing your iPhone 4S and Mac share a Wi-Fi network in common, you can now use TouchPad to send voice notes from your device which Siri will, as she does with aplomb, convert into text understandable to the Mac.

Here are the rather excitedly-written release notes from Edovia, emphasizing the time and effort put in to the app:

At last, TouchPad 4.0 is out with even more Lion Love! This version took more time than planned and most of the work was made deep down in the app, mostly in preparation of Screens 2.0, which uses the same VNC framework we’ve developed for the past years and had to be revamped. The result is a super solid app that won’t give up!

Some features, such as the dragging gesture, were changed so we recommend you take a look at the revamped help documentation, bundled in the app. However, there’s still many new features.

Of the App Store’s rather incredible 500,000+ applications, although some are good and some are bad – as you would expect, some are just lacking a little TLC. It’s refreshing to see Edovia, (who aren’t the only outfit to work tirelessly on app improvements) still consider the customer experience after the money has been banked. Developers of neglected apps should certainly heed the example set by Edovia.

As has been the case throughout the TouchPad release cycle, this version runs very smoothly, and as well as the Siri integration, the update freshens the interface of the modifier toolbar on the iPad version and adds support for the EyeTV media player, as well as the usual array of bug fixes.

You can download TouchPad 4.0 from Apple’s App Store via this link. It costs $4.99, and compared to many other apps we feature, the price may seem a touch on the high side. That said, the quality of the app is also higher than average, rendering it well worth the money.

Today we have some big news regarding the effort to port Siri to other devices. With the development last week of SiriProxy, as well as Applidium’s tools, the ability for developers to run their own Siri servers rose dramatically. Now, we see the fruits of those efforts, as the first package that enables Siri on all devices is now available in Cydia.

The package is called Siri0us, and is available for free if you add a custom source. If you want to download the package, simply open Cydia, go to the “Manage” tab, choose “Sources”, and click “Add”. When presented with a text field, type in “http://cydia.myrepospace.com/0xjf/” and add the source. Then, just open the source or search for “Siri0us” in the search menu. There have been errors reported with the download, so just keep trying if it fails.

Video Tutorial:

Note that this is not full Siri functionality, just the dictation feature that comes as part of Siri. While we don’t have the full system integration that there is on the iPhone 4S, this is a huge step in the right direction. Hopefully we will see a lot more developers get on this, and the process of getting Siri fully working can move onward.

The past several hours have been quite hectic in the jailbreak community, with an announcement of a new crash reporter tool to help the Chronic Dev Team develop an untether for iOS 5, and the Dev Team’s Musclenerd announcing that an unlock for the iPhone 4S is in the works.

Now, there is even more to be excited about, as a new group, the Pwn Dev Team, has released their own jailbreak tool by the name of Ac1dSn0w. This tool is not affiliated with any of the current tools like Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze, but performs essentially the same function as Redsn0w. All that differes right now is a different interface, much simpler than that of Redsn0w (mostly because it lacks some functions). Note that this is not a tethered jailbreak, and is merely an alternate tool for performing the same function as Redsn0w.

To jailbreak with this tool follow the directions below.

NOTE: This jailbreak is NOT compatible with the iPhone 4S or iPad 2. The jailbreak is identical to the one provided by Redsn0w.

DOWNLOAD (Mac only)

1. Connect your device to your computer and turn it off.

2. Put your device in DFU mode. If you cannot remember how, check “Show Assistant” for on-screen directions.

3. Click “Jailbreak” and wait for the process to complete. If you want more info on what the program is doing, just check “Show Console”.

4. Once done, put your device in DFU mode again and click “Tethered Boot”.

Thats it! Keep in mind that this is still a beta release, and still may be unstable. We recommend holding off on this tool, especially since it doesn’t offer anything in addition to Redsn0w. You can check out the Pwn Dev Team’s post on Ac1dSn0w here.
