After his death from cancer in October, the BBC Two started crafting a nearly one-hour documentary examining how Jobs propelled the company from his parents’ garage to global supremacy. While key figures in both Jobs’ personal and professional life didn’t participate, the BBC did get cooperation from folks who knew him as a Merry Prankster-like individual circa the Ken Kesey era. One of those who were happy to talk was Steve Wozniak, the computer wizard who founded Apple with Jobs in 1976, and left full-time employment there in the mid 1980s. In speaking about their connection, Wozniak commented, “Steve and I, we were like a Lennon-McCartney partnership.”

The idea is to create a gaping hole in the torso using two iPads, one taped iPad on the front, and one taped on the back, then start a FaceTime conversation between them. The result is quite cool…

I don’t know if I’d feel comfortable going out with my iPads taped on my body, but maybe I’m just not enough of a daredevil.

How do you like this costume?

What many consider to be Apple‘s most exciting feature in the iPhone 4S, vocal assistant feature Siri, can in fact, be ported to the iPhone 4.

According to 9to5 Mac, developer Steven Troughton-Smith was able to port the software on his iPhone 4 after first installing the files for Siri and Springboard, which controls how the iOS home screen acts. For example, it is Springboard that allows your icons to wiggle after you’ve held one down for a certain amount of time. Once he had the files in place, he successfully began porting.

Apple has been known to hold features for its newest products. The first assumption is obviously Apple wants to make its next product appealing. It’s marketing. But at the same time, Apple doesn’t like applications to work on its products if not perfectly. In the first video below, the iPhone 4 seems to balk a little under the extra Siri weight.

But even if the hardware can just barely support a feature, Apple’s famously minimalistic view strips the feature out to prevent it from gumming up the works. As 9to5Mac points out, Apple withheld custom wall paper from iPhone 3 users when the iPhone 4 arrived, even though the mechanics could technically support custom wallpapers, if not smoothly.

The issue here was a problem connecting Siri to the iPhone 4 GPU, or graphics processing unit. But after a few hours, Troughton-Smith was able to access it and run Siri with less hiccups. The two videos below show the difference between accessing the GPU and not — it’s very choppy at first, as opposed to a nice, smooth glide through the features we see post GPU access.

Though this downside was fixed, another issue is Apple’s servers will not listen to Siri commands coming from the iPhone 4.

Siri does have all the same capabilities on the iPhone 4, however. The feature has a standard speech view as well as a text field view, which are both available after the port. See the videos of Siri running on an iPhone 4 below.

If there’s one thing we all seem to enjoy doing, it’s looking into the future and making weird and wonderful predictions about what the future will be like, and how our world will be changed dramatically by the technology around us.

The problem is, we’re usually very wide of the mark. Just look at some of the science fiction books and movies from twenty years ago, and see what the people of the time thought 2011 would be like.

If anything, the future has turned out to be a complete let down. Where are our flying cars, and where are our meals that come in pellet form? When predicting the future, we’re not quite good at it, we suck, to put it in simple words.

Which is why it’s particularly intriguing to see a rather fancy-looking video come out of Microsoft. Surely this has been put together by their Windows team, or perhaps their Windows Phone team, you presume. Well, you’d presume wrong because the team behind this video are the creative visionaries (does sarcasm come across well in text?) in, wait for it, the Office team!

The whole video shows what Microsoft thinks will be a whole new level of connectivity, with all our personal devices talking to each other, and linking seamlessly, or more importantly, wirelessly, with each other.

The six minute video is certainly worth your time to watch, assuming you can stand the music, but we wouldn’t be expecting anything shown to be appearing in your local Best Buy any time soon.
